Types of Scholarships

There are four different kinds of Florida Bright Futures Scholarships available to eligible students. The details are provided below:

1. Florida Academic Scholarship (FAS):

  • 3.50 GPA with weights
  • 100 hours of paid labor or 100 hours of service
  • 16 credits of required high school coursework
  • Reach a minimum ACT® or SAT® score by June 30 of the year you want to graduate from high school.

2. Florida Medallion Scholarship (FMS):

  • 75 service hours or 100 paid job hours
  • A 3.00 weighted GPA
  • 16 credits of required high school coursework
  • Reach a minimum ACT® or SAT® score by June 30 of the year you want to graduate from high school.

3. Gold Seal Cape Scholarship (GSC):

  • GPA is not necessary.
  • 100 hours of paid labor or 30 hours of service
  • Five hours of post-secondary CAPE credit
  • Not necessary: SAT® or ACT® score

4. Gold Seal Vocational Scholarship (GSV):

  • 3.00 weighted GPA for courses that are not optional
  • 3.5 unweighted GPA in courses related to career education
  • In a single Career and Technical Education program, three complete credits
  • 100 hours of paid labor or 30 hours of service
  • There are no prerequisite classes
  • Obtain a minimum score on the ACT®, SAT®, or P.E.R.T. examinations by June 30 of the year of high school graduation.

General Eligibility Requirements

  • Be a Florida resident and either a US citizen or, if the student’s college or institution determines, an eligible noncitizen.
  • By August 31 of the year following high school graduation, complete the FFAA.
  • Obtain a standard Florida high school diploma or its equivalent by enrolling in a Florida public high school or a private high school that is registered with the Florida Department of Education (FDOE). Completing a home education program is another option.
  • Unless the student has received a pardon from the Governor and Cabinet, which serves as the Executive Office of Clemency, they have not been proven guilty of a crime or entered a not guilty plea.
  • Be admitted to and begin a degree or certificate program at a Florida college or university, whether public or private, that fulfills the prerequisites.
  • Each term, take at least six-semester credits (or the equivalent number of clock hours or quarter credits) that are not for remediation.

Specific Eligibility Requirements

  • Obtain a normal Florida high school diploma by completing your education in a public high school in the state.
  • To be eligible for college, you must score at least the minimum on the ACT® or SAT® by June 30 of the year you graduate from high school.
  • After graduating from high school, complete the required number of hours of voluntary labor or 100 hours of paid work, and submit an FFAA by August 31, 2019.
