Eligibility Criteria

  • Reach the age of eighteen by February 1st, the day the scholarship is supposed to start.
  • Hold citizenship in one of the participating nations (as listed on the Australia Awards website) and be a resident of that nation at the time of applying for a scholarship.
  • Not being an Australian citizen, not having permanent residency in Australia, or requesting a visa to live there permanently
  • Not be serving in the armed forces on an active-duty basis; Be able to meet any requirements set forth by the government of the applicant’s home country or the Program Area (e.g., a minimum number of years of work experience in a related industry)
  • Be able to fulfill the admission requirements of the university where the grant is to be used (if the recipient is unable to fulfill the institution’s requirements for admission, Program Areas may be required to withdraw the award’s offer). This might not be clear until Program Areas ask specific institutions to place their students.
  • Able to fulfill all standards set forth by the Department of Home Affairs to receive a student visa. If the winner cannot meet the requirements for a visa, this may require the Program Area to withdraw an award offer.
  • Scholarship applications for programs of study at a lower academic level than the applicant’s present degree (such as a Master’s scholarship for a Ph.D. applicant) should not be submitted; and
  • To guarantee that the application is handled openly and efficiently, applicants must reveal any ties or links with employees of Program Areas (including locally engaged workers at the post) or managing contractors to the Program Area.
